Listening volunteer

GibSams offers a confidential helpline/chat service which offers a listening service to anyone experiencing distress, despair or suicidal feelings. Our GibSams volunteers are trained to listen; you can talk to them any time you like, in your own way, and off the record – about whatever is getting to you.

You do not have to give your name, and neither does the listener; your call is anonymous and completely confidential, and it cannot be traced back to you.

We hold selection days several times a year, where those interested in becoming a volunteer for GibSams can find out more information and see if this is indeed for them.

Anyone can be a listener; there are no professional qualifications needed, just an interest in helping others.  Our training team will teach you all you need to know and be with you throughout the 5 weeks of training (1 morning a week). All we ask is for a commitment of one x 3-hour shift each week after you have completed your training.

If being a listener is not for you, you can volunteer to help us out with the Awareness Events we hold during the year.
